On the other hand for most whisky fanciers peatland reminds peat and that’s peaty or smoky whisky.But there is big a misunderstood in whisky industry about identifying the peaty whisky and the smoky whisky.As a result of this complicated situation; if you start a sentence with PEAT, it is equal to SMOKY.
- But totally smoky and peaty notes and whiskies are different from each other.
To identify smoke on nose; a burnt wood or a textile notes.
For peat; we can figure it out with moist soil, the organic floral, rotting seaweeds.Briefly; smoke on nose; carbon based,reated and inshaped to inorganic form.But peat; is more organic.

Peatlands have more fuctions to balance for the ecosystem of nature such as ; the peatlands are also called ‘’The Kidneys Of The Nature’’.Also peatlands located more quantities from North part of the Lands.
As we have clearly seen that Holland and Denmark’s Peatlands are nearly totally lost.The %70 of United Kingdom’s fresh water sources are filtering from the peatlands.
